I’ve dedicated most of my life to beer — not only as a passion, but as a profession. Growing up in Bamberg, one of the world’s greatest beer cities, I was surrounded by brewing culture from an early age. For over a decade I’ve been teaching Beer Sommelier courses and helping professionals as well as enthusiasts discover the depth and beauty of beer culture. Along the way, I’ve written more than 60 books about beer!

I am a certified Beer, Noble Spirits, and Cheese Sommelier. I serve as an international beer judge at some of the world’s most prestigious competitions, including the World Beer Cup, the World Beer Awards, the Brussels Beer Challenge, and the European Beer Star. I am a member of both the British and the North American Guild of Beer Writers, and a proud recipient of the Bamberg Beer Order, and was also inducted into the Belgian Knighthood of the Brewers’ Paddle.

In addition, I am a photographer, journalist, and media professional, as well as a board member of Bierland Oberfranken, chairman of the Bavarian Spirits Sommeliers Association, and founding president of the German Beer Consumers Union (GBCU e.V.). I am also a certified trainer in organizational development, a lecturer at the Genussakademie Bayern, and the only nominated WSET Beer Educator in Germany.

As a German-Brazilian, my fascination with beer really took root when I moved to Germany. Growing up in such a rich brewing culture, I found myself drawn into the world of beer from a pretty young age. And at 17, I started my professional career studying brewing and malting and working as a brewer.

With that degree in hand, I went on to become an International Beer Sommelière and a Qualified Beer Judge. Today, I judge at major international competitions such as the Brazilian Beer Competition and the World Beer Awards, and I’m also part of the organizing team behind the Brussels Beer Challenge. In addition, I serve as a delegate and treasurer for the German Beer Consumers Union.

Through my Sommelier training, I realized how much valuable knowledge you simply don’t learn in a typical brewing school. It’s not only about the technical side — it’s also about history, food pairing, and everything from the field to the served glass. That’s when I thought: why not share this world of beer education with an international audience? Instead of keeping it just in Germany, we want to open the doors so people everywhere can explore beer with the same depth and appreciation that we do.
