Who This Course Is For
Level 3 is designed for those who are already deeply immersed in the world of beer and wish to distinguish themselves at the very highest level. This is the right path for individuals who want to demonstrate truly outstanding beer expertise, test themselves against rigorous international standards, and earn a credential that sets them apart in the global beer community.
Course Format
Level 3 is not a course like Level 1 and 2, but a set of examinations. These examinations take place in person over two consecutive days. Locations vary and will be announced here on the website as well as in our informational newsletter, for which you can register at any time.
Course Syllabus
Level 3 focuses on demonstrating complete mastery of beer knowledge. Participants will train to recognize advanced off-flavors under time pressure and practice blind tastings to identify beer styles quickly and reliably.
In addition to the full range of sommelier-level knowledge, candidates are expected to show deeper expertise in historical and lesser-known beers that are rarely covered at earlier stages.
Unlike Level 2, where participants choose which style to present, Level 3 requires you to present a style assigned at random. You must be prepared to cover every aspect of it: history, origin, food pairings, appropriate glassware, and key producers.
Further details of the curriculum will be published in 2026.
Assessment and Exams
The examination process consists of four demanding stages:
Sensory Analysis I – Identification of a set number of off-flavors in beer.
Sensory Analysis II – Recognition and classification of a range of beer styles.
Oral Examination – Presentation of a randomly selected beer at a professional, high level.
Written Examination – Advanced theoretical knowledge, including technical, cultural, and historical aspects of beer.
Course Objectives
The goal of Level 3 is to prove mastery of beer knowledge at the highest level. Graduates will:
Demonstrate exceptional expertise across all aspects of beer production, culture, and evaluation
Recognize and analyze off-flavors and beer styles with accuracy and speed
Present and describe beers at a professional level with confidence and precision
Contribute as leaders in beer education, judging, consulting, and communication
Act as international ambassadors of beer culture, setting an example for others in the field
- Serve as table captains in beer competitions
Prerequisites
Participation in Level 3 requires either successful completion of Level 2 or proof of an equivalent qualification, such as being a certified Beer Sommelier or holding a comparable title.
Course Material
Participants receive advanced written study materials designed specifically for exam preparation. However, Level 3 assumes a strong mastery of advanced sommelier knowledge; it does not include the foundational resources provided at earlier levels.
Certification
Upon passing all examinations, participants are awarded the title of Certified International Grand Master Beer Sommelier, along with a printed certificate and the official Grand Master pin.
Tuition
The tuition fee for Level 3 will be announced at a later date.
