Definitely not — even though we are based in Germany, and we value German precision in teaching, our focus goes much further. We explore beer styles from across the world — from England and Belgium to the US and many other beer countries worldwide.

Yes, in most cases you will need to purchase your own beers.

  • Level 1: We study classic beer styles that are usually widely available, so you should be able to source them easily in your region. It’s always best to choose local breweries where possible — you’ll get the freshest beers and support your regional beer culture at the same time.

  • Level 2: You will receive a list of required beer styles before the course begins. In many countries, we have partner providers you can order from. If they cannot deliver to your location, you will need to source the beers locally.

  • Level 3: All required beers for the exam itself are provided during the in-person examination. For preparation and training, however, participants are expected to source the beers themselves. You are welcome to use our partner providers where available, but there is no official exam list of beers that must be purchased in advance.

Yes. All participants should have a good command of English. You should be able to communicate effectively and answer exam questions in English, as this is essential for successful participation, especially in the examinations.

  • Level 1: No prerequisites. Beginners are welcome.

  • Level 2: Requires either successful completion of Level 1 or passing the Candidacy exam to qualify as a Candidate for Level 2. In this way, it is possible to enter Level 2 directly without attending Level 1 classes.

  • Level 3: Requires either successful completion of Level 2 or an equivalent qualification. Beer sommeliers or graduates of comparable programs from other institutions may also apply. In such cases, proof of qualification must be provided, and admission will be decided individually.

Levels 1 and 2 are typically held online, offering maximum flexibility — you don’t need to travel, take time off work, or cover extra costs like flights and accommodation.

For companies or larger groups, we also offer the option of in-person training. In this case, our instructors can come to you for an intensive program delivered on site.

Level 3 is different: it focuses on independent study with provided materials, and the final Grand Master examination is conducted fully in person.

We are not simply an examination company — we place real value on teaching. Learning comes first, and once you’ve gained the knowledge, the examination and certification follow naturally.

Instead of learning from just one instructor, our program brings together more than 10 guest lecturers. Each of them is a professional in their specific field, giving you a wide horizon of knowledge and perspectives that go far beyond what a single teacher could offer.

We combine this with over a decade of experience in training beer sommeliers, using structured and comprehensive teaching methods that are proven to be efficient. All of our content is based on a strong scientific foundation, always striving for what is original and true.

At the same time, our online format saves you time, travel, and costs — without losing the practical side. Courses are hands-on, with tastings, sensory training, and real-world applications that directly connect theory to practice.

And most of all: we are passionate about what we do. Even after you complete your course, you will remain part of our community — through monthly alumni meetings and special opportunities to participate in our international beer trips, making the learning journey continue long after the certification.

All live online sessions are recorded and made available exclusively to the students of your class. This way, you can re-watch any session you might have missed.

The learning format depends on the certification level you choose:

  • Level 1: The course is structured into 10 self-paced modules. Each module has several videos to watch and a short test at the end. After completing a module, you move on to the next until you finish the full program.

  • Level 2: The course runs for 12 weeks with one live online session per week (around 3 hours each). After each session, you can take a short test on that topic, but all tests must be completed by the end of the course. The final written, sensory, and oral examinations are also conducted online, and we will explain the details once the course begins.

  • Level 3: You receive study materials (PDFs and written resources) and prepare for the Grand Master examination independently at home. If you have any questions during your preparation, you can always contact us for support.

If you experience any issues with payment, please contact us right away via email. There’s always a solution, and we’ll make it work for you.

It’s true that “beer sommelier” is not a legally protected term. But neither is “wine sommelier” — and yet, around the world, it is one of the most respected and recognized titles in the world of beverages. We chose not to reinvent the wheel. Instead, we use the term Beer Sommelier (as well as Beer Connoisseur and Grand Master) because professionals — and most importantly, customers — instantly understand what it means.

In the end, what really matters is the quality of your education, the depth of your knowledge, and the professionalism you bring to your work. That is what creates respect — not a title alone.
